I READ with interest that VJ Connor (HAS, Feb 10) disagrees with Sainsbury’s decision to report two men for stealing sandwiches from its store in Duke Street, Darlington.
It will have been the decision of the magistrates to fine the men £40.
Are we to assume that Mr Connor condones the stealing of produce from shops if it is by certain members of society?
People cannot treat a shop like a food bank.
Stealing is stealing! If Mr Connor is so concerned, why doesn’t he pay the £40 fines for the shoplifters, and hand out free sandwiches in Darlington.
John Watson, Durham.
