THE perception that ash trees are one of Britain’s most common woodland species isn’t altogether correct.
We should realise that the ash is being killed off by fungal infection on a scale not seen since Dutch Elm Disease in the 1970s.
The ash’s survival is crucial to the character of the English countryside and it’s to be hoped that the Government will introduce radical legislation on this issue.
