REFER to Jim Tague’s letter on food banks (HAS, Jan 31).
According to the Trussell Trust, more than 350,000 people needed to use food banks in 2012, which was more than triple the number in 2011 and 100,000 more than expected.
They quite clearly stated in reports that the surge in demand would continue due to the changes in welfare benefits being implemented by the Government.
Perhaps Mr Tague could give us the annual figures of people using food banks from 2004 onwards so that we can see what grown exponentially since then actually means.
I look forward to his enlightening answer.
