I WAS sorry to read the sad news of the death of former professional wrestler Mick McManus (Echo, May 28).
The man who loved to hate, has passed away at the age of 93 years.
Eleven million viewers used to watch his great battles against the infamous Jackie Pallo at Wembley town hall in the early 1960s.
They would tune in every Saturday afternoon at 4pm to watch ITV’s World of Sport.
Mick grappled with scores of famous wrestling stars including the original George Kidd, the great comic clowns of Les Kellett and Johnny Czeslaw, Johnny Saint, Peter Roberts, the king of head butts Johnny Knwago, the Royal Brothers and children’s favourite Big Daddy.
He also formed a great tag partnership with “iron man” Steve Logan.
I won’t forget the late Mick McManus.
