I WOULD like to thank everyone in Spennymoor and Tudhoe who voted Labour in the recent local elections, returning four Labour county councillors and a strong Labour majority to Spennymoor Town Council – a majority which has served the people of Spennymoor well for many years.
I note independent town councillor Liz Maddison’s recent letter (HAS, May 10). She accused me of being inexperienced and uninvolved. That led me to wonder how she can accuse me of being misleading, when she knows her allegations are false.
Not only did I serve as the Member of Youth Parliament for South Durham for two years, representing the young people of the county nationally, prior to that I sat in meetings of the Sedgefield Borough area one forum from the age of 14 working alongside Coun Maddison.
Unlike Coun Maddison, I am not interested in launching personal attacks through the press.
Instead, I will be focusing my time on improving services in Spennymoor and helping to put the town back onto the map.
Granted this is my first term as a county councillor but it seems that what I may be lacking in experience I make up for in maturity – and this was reflected in the election result.
Councillor Ian Geldard, Spennymoor.
