ON going to my local surgery at Sherburn Village to hand in a repeat prescription I found it closed and boarded up.
I made my way to the sister surgery at Belmont two miles away. It’s not what you call direct but I was lucky to have a vehicle.
Then I found out upon arrival that the Sherburn surgery is going to be closed until at least September.
Sherburn, Shadforth and Sherburn Hill all have a large elderly population.
Worse, the vast majority are not so lucky as to have transport of their own.
Considering the cost of public transport, surely something closer could have been sorted?
But my main point is that no one was informed about the closure.
You only find out when you need the surgery facilities or via wordof- mouth.
Surely they could have put a notice in the local paper?
We recently had a parish council newsletter and there was nothing in that either.
I suppose we have to remember that the elections have already taken place.
