I AM incensed by J Lawler’s letter (HAS, May 6), which questioned why elderly celebrities are suddenly facing historic sexual allegations – or a “witch hunt”, as he called it.
Mr Lawler appears to be suggesting that because these individuals are in the public eye they should get away with any crimes they may have committed. He fails to understand the impact the alleged incidents have had on their victims and their families.
It was much harder to report incidents years ago. Victims would be frightened that they would not be believed, especially if the perpetrator was held in high esteem.
Thankfully, not all men share Mr Lawler’s chauvinistic, outdated beliefs.
