DAVID WALSH (Echo, May 4) criticised the Tees Valley Local Enterprise Partnership for not providing a reply to The Northern Echo because of the rules relating to purdah.

I think Mr Walsh got it wrong when he said: “Nowhere in the Tees Valley are there any local elections.”

I would draw his attention to the by-election in the Middlesbrough area of the Pallister and Berwick Hills ward on May 2, which took place as a result of the new police and crime commissioner Barry Coppinger stepping down as a Middlesbrough councillor.

I’m sure Mr Walsh, as a fellow Labour supporter, would not only want to congratulate the Durham Leader Simon Henig and his Labour team for winning 94 of the 126 seats in the Durham County Council elections, but congratulate Mick Thompson and his Labour team for their win in the Middlesbrough byelection on the same day.

Coun George Dunning, leader, Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council.
