I AM delighted to hear that Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple is set to return next year (Echo, Nov 6).
I was even more cheered by the news when I heard that the Darlington funny man Vic Reeves is set to appear in an episode alongside Ab Fab’s Julia Sawalha and Fiona Shaw, of Harry Potter fame.
Miss Jane Marple has been fighting crime on our cinema and television screens for many years – first as played by Dame Margaret Rutherford and more recently by Julia McKenzie.
I have always enjoyed the adventures of Miss Jane Marple.
The spinster always managed to solve the mysteries and felonies in her own unique way and I find the character a joy to watch on television.
So much so, in fact, that when I was told that the amateur detective is set to return in a new drama, and that Vic Reeves is to play a butler alongside her, I visited a local swimming pool and performed several backflips in the water in utter delight – much to the bemusement of the other swimmers and the pool attendant.
Sorry for the splashing, folks, and welcome back Miss Marple.
Christopher Wardell, Darlington.
