AS SOMEONE who was stuck on the road last Wednesday (Dec 5) due to ice it is all very well Terry Collins, Durham County Council’s corporate director of neighbourhood services, saying that county roads had been gritted.
In fact, it is salt that they put on the roads and anyone with a brain knows once salt gets wet, be it be by rain or snow, it is no use whatsoever.
If it was grit that was used, traffic would get a much better grip and would travel better.
However, it may said that grit would block drains but a lot of drain are already blocked and in need of cleaning out.
Grit was used years ago on roads plus snow ploughs were used more when there had been a fall of snow.
Clearing the snow from the roads is better than just pouring salt onto the snow. Let’s see what happens next time as this is just the start of the winter.
