IT was a great honour and a privilege for Councillor Sheelagh Clarke and I to be invited to the unveiling of a tribute plaque to the late MP Ashok Kumar, who was one of the saviours of the Guisborough swimming pool.
Ashok, along with the Friends of Guisborough Swimming Pool, campaigned for eight years to save the facility.
When Labour regained the Council in 2007 the new leadership met with the Guisborough Swimming Pool Committee which Ashok chaired and we agreed to find the money to keep it open. The rest is history.”
Councillor George Dunning, Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council.
