A CONSISTENT system of food labelling will be introduced next year – and not before time many would say.
However, one thing that you can be sure will not be on the label of your meat or meat product will be whether or not the animal in question was slaughtered by the halal method – that is having its throat cut without prior stunning.
This barbaric and long outdated system is allowed to go on everyday in slaughterhouses up and down the country in the full knowledge of government officials who do nothing to bring it to a stop.
Until this practice is made illegal, as it surely eventually will be, the public should have the right to know how their meat is slaughtered and choose whether or not to buy it.
