MOST people would agree that Darlington’s old town centre bus station was a failure.

But most people would also agree that every town should have a bus station.

No doubt everyone would say that we simply cannot afford to pay for one.

However, the town has the perfect site just yards from the market square and next to the town hall.

In fact, the site is so good that, until recently, it was the site of Darlington’s bus station.

I propose that all the town centre’s bus shelters should be relocated to this site – thereby reclaiming the heart of our town’s “pedestrian heart” from vehicles. We can pave it when we can afford it.

This would cost nothing. The council already owns the land and the shelters.
