ONCE more energy prices are being increased as private companies allow their profits to soar (Echo, Oct 16).

In my opinion, one of the worst pieces of legislation to be allowed through Parliament was the privatisation of our utilities.

Our electricity, gas and water boards were taken over by foreign investors.

We were informed that the extra competition would drive down prices. Try telling that to the elderly and vulnerable people, who are struggling to pay their energy bills.

I do not favour nationalisation in general.

However, when the economy picks up I would like to see at least 51 per cent of the shares of these firms bought out by the Government.
