THE leading letter from numerous doctors and health professionals published on October 25 was written from a health standpoint.
Although agreeing with the aim of improving the region’s health Camra (the Campaign for Real Ale) sees its priorities as achieving a level playing field for pubs, publicans and their customers vis-a-vis the supermarkets.
We have come to the same conclusion as the signatories to the letter – that alcohol sold in supermarkets and off-licences should have a minimum unit price of 50p.
We have been campaigning nationally for some years on this theme and ask our supporters and readers of The Northern Echo to contact their MPs and ask for their support.
Malcolm Dunstone, Darlington.
