LAST week we hard that the recession is over (Echo, Oct 25).

I am surprised.

The same day 1,400 jobs were lost at Ford factories in Southampton and Dagenham, in Essex.

I also read in The Northern Echo that Argos is to re-organise and may shut some of its stores or distribution centres.

Job losses are instantaneous.

Job creation takes time.

Just looking the Hitachi train factory in Aycliffe. The rewards, in terms of new jobs, won’t be seen for another two years at least.

It goes to show if you put all economists, statiticians, and accountants in a line they wouldn’t reach a conclusion.
