THIS summer’s Olympics brought us no end of heroes, athletes who really stepped up and gave their all for their country. But it isn’t just members of Team GB who we can be rightly proud of – the reporters and commentators, particularly those from the BBC, really excelled and deserve star status for their own sterling efforts.

If sports presenting was a medal event, then bringing home gold would be Clare Balding. She was the star of many a show throughout July and August, and now she’s on our screens hosting a very different type of contest.

As the first of the guest hosts for this new series of Have I Got News for You, she’ll be in the thick of the action as she keeps the peace between team captains Paul Merton and Ian Hislop and their respective guests.

As always, the week’s headlines will be taking a pasting from the sultans of satire.

Surely the Tory conference and the appearance of Boris Johnson, who once hosted HIGNFY, will be the source of much merriment.
