If you’re finding it difficult to find the perfect present, the gift goddess has the dos and don’ts of good giving.
MEN who are stuck for ideas on what to buy their loved ones for Christmas are being offered tips by a boutique owner in Darlington.
Nicola Reading, self-styled gift goddess and owner of Bliss Gifts on Duke Street, is helping men (and women) come up with original ideas for gifts at other shops as well as her own.
“We see hundreds of customers, all looking for that extra special gift for their loved one and even if we can’t find exactly what they are looking for my advice is often taken gratefully, even if it is to send them off to another store when we really can’t help,” says Nicola.
Bliss Gifts has presents for all occasions from jewellery and accessories to children’s clothes.
Nicola recommends asking your loved one for a wishlist for a particular store then beating the crowds by shopping late or on a Sunday.
She also suggests calling the store ahead and asking if the items can be wrapped in advance to save time.
Nicola’s advice to men is to avoid the underwear trap and being tempted to buy red nylon or itchy black lace. Electrical goods are another big turn-off (unless it’s GHD hair straighteners or a Gaggia espresso coffee maker).
Bread makers, chip pans, power drills and hedge trimmers are to be avoided at all costs, says Nicola.
“If she’s green fingered try gardening gloves with a funky design or a beautiful, vibrant flower pot with her favourite plant in it,” she says.
