WHAT do window cleaners, slowmotion commuters, doughnuts and relationships have in common?
Well, according to The Fantastical World of Hormones with Dr John Wass they’re all tied together with hormones, that biological phenomena which turns children into adults, governs our appetites, and affects our passions.
“They are fundamental to making us who we are”, explains Dr John Wass, a professor of endocrinology at Oxford University who has spent 40 years studying the hormones.
During the course of the programme he comes face to face with a chicken, slices up some meat and waxes lyrical about opera.
Hormones are a compelling subject matter to opera-lover John, so little wonder he’s desperate to pass on that enthusiasm to the viewer.
Naturally, like all good science films examining a subject, the documentary turns into a detective story, and Wass picks up the trail in the 1730s.
