FOR those who have been hooked on Mark Kermode and Simon Mayo’s Radio 5 Live show for the past decade or more, their weekly bickering about old and new movies like a married couple is audio nirvana.
And for film-loving TV viewers, the Kermode awards are also worth a look. Now we get to see which films made his pick of the past 12 months in The Culture Show: Forget The Oscars, Here Are The Kermodes.
The Act of Killing, one of his favourites, has been shortlisted for an Oscar, so that rules it out of his annual Kermodes shortlist – the only criteria necessary is that the films he nominates haven’t been given a nod by the famous Academy. Thankfully, he has seen plenty of great films that haven’t been given a look-in, including Beyond the Hills, Good Vibrations and The Selfish Giant, which all stand a strong chance of winning tonight.
It’s also possible that Ridley Scott’s The Counsellor may win the worst film of the year.
