THREE years ago, Reggie Yates experienced the slums of Kibera, in Kenya, for Comic Relief. Now he’s back for a new series in which he spends a week living and working in three rather different and extreme worlds – all of them representing an intriguing side of today’s Africa.
The White Slums: Reggie Yates’ Extreme South Africa finds him experiencing life with a deprived community of White Afrikaans living in a South-African shanty town lacking electricity or hot water. He also spends time at Africa’s largest hospital, where more young men die from gunshot wounds than anything else.
Yates also gives us his thoughts on the richest churches on the continent. Spending a week in each community, he follows their daily routines, and shares their workload, while exploring the issues facing his generation in Africa.
