THANKS to the growing popularity of digital video recorders, it’s now easier than ever to watch TV shows at any time of the day.
If you’re among those who enjoy this type of service, just make sure you’re not replaying this documentary too close to mealtimes.
It follows Dr Michael Mosley (aka, that expert who pops up on The One Show occasionally) as he turns himself into a living laboratory by infecting himself with all manner of nasties.
From a scientific standpoint, it’s fascinating, and the effects of the parasites are sometimes quite surprising – but that doesn’t make the footage of him ingesting tapeworm-ridden cysts any easier to, ahem, swallow.
Also under the microscope are head lice, malaria protozoans, leeches and an unusual organism by the name of toxoplasma gondii, which is contracted from cat faeces and is said to make host humans take bigger risks. Not that Michael needs any more encouragement.
