IF it really is lucky to have something old and something new at a wedding, then the couples featured in A Very British Wedding should enjoy long and happy marriages.
The programme looks at how people from different cultural backgrounds are incorporating their own traditions into their big day, while in some cases also drawing on modern British customs.
Take Gary, who is of Chinese descent, and his Yorkshire bride, Cat, for example, whose union is going to be a truly multinational affair. With the help of their Siberian-born planner, Igor, they are intending to have a white wedding on a beach in Cyprus.
Bibiana and Sam are also hoping for a white wedding with a twist, as they prepare to be married in the Nigerian Christian tradition. Before saying their vows in an Anglican church in front of more than 400 guests, the couple’s mothers will be officially bringing the families together at a Yoruban traditional engagement.
