FRIDAY night on BBC4 tends to be devoted to music documentaries, but they are usually dedicated to all-time greats such as Led Zeppelin, Tom Jones or The Beatles.

Most people would agree that Chas and Dave, or Chas ’n’ Dave, as they’re occasionally also known, shouldn’t stand alongside such luminaries. Nevertheless, in their own way, they’re a classic act, and have certainly made their mark on their many fans.

Oddly enough, they once appeared on the same bill as the aforementioned Led Zep, and even supported the Fab Four, so maybe a collaboration with Jones is just around the corner.

Chas & Dave: Last Orders charts the duo’s five decades in the music industry, from their days as session musicians, through to their chart successes in the late 1970s and early 1980s. There’s also an insight into why they split in 2009, only to reunite two years later.

Arthur Smith narrates, while Pete Doherty, Jools Holland and Phill Jupitus contribute.
