SOME women experience an early menopause following cancer treatment. This can be a difficult experience, especially in younger women, and may lead to more severe menopausal symptoms that can be harder to manage.
In the latest issue of The Menopause Exchange newsletter, GP Dr Jane Woyka looks at the effects that cancer therapy can have on the menopause, from the symptoms to the long-term risks and management issues.
“The menopause following cancer therapy can be a traumatic experience,” says Norma Goldman, founder and director of The Menopause Exchange. “Some cancer treatments can make the symptoms worse, HRT may not be suitable in all cases and some complementary therapies and natural products are not always recommended. In her article, Dr Woyka explores all the issues.”
The Menopause Exchange, which was established in 1999, is completely independent and aims to provide unbiased and easily understood information to women and healthcare professionals. The information provided is designed to enable women to make informed decisions about their health.
