LOVE the trend, started by Dove, and now followed by M&S, of using real women in adverts. Well, real-ish. Twiggy is not exactly your typical 63 year old but it’s a start.

Now in their shapewear ad they’ve even got someone who, they say, is, shock horror, a size 16, albeit a size 16 with every spot, scar and suspicion of cellulite safely airbrushed out.

(Incidentally, don’t you love “shapewear”? I believe our grannies called them corsets...) Boden, the yummy mummies’ favourite catalogue, used to be famous for using the owners’ friends and relations to model their clothes but have now drafted in top model Helena Christensen.

All of which goes to show what the clothes COULD look like, but not necessarily how they’ll look on you and me, especially if we’re very short or very wide.

And definitely not if we’re both.

Now we have the limitless resources of the internet, wouldn’t it be good to see what the clothes looked like on every size, from titchy to tall with all widths in between?

But maybe we prefer to imagine ourselves looking like that airbrushed model of perfection...
