But Ingrid Loyau-Kennett did.
Faced with the terrifying scene in Woolwich on Wednesday, the cub scout leader from Cornwall jumped off a bus and tried to persuade the killer to hand over his weapons and give himself up.
Sometimes, ordinary people do extraordinary things that leave the rest of us in awe.
Now “ordinary” is the last word to describe heroic Ingrid.
