More bank branches across the North East are set to close in the coming months, as more than 260 outlets will close across the UK this year.

Banks are continuing to push forward with the move to online banking, with more branches set to pull their shutters down.

This year FOURTEEN branches across the North East will close, leaving thousands of customers without a branch nearby.

Four Barclays branches in the region will close this spring. Four HSBC branches will close before August, along with three Halifax stores and one Lloyds site.

There are no Nationwide, Santander or TSB branches in our region due to shut.

Data collected by ATM network LINK has listed all of the branches in the region set to close.

Here are all of the banks set to close in 2023 in the North East (as of March 30):

Barclays

  • Stanhope, County Durham – DL13 2TU – closing April 21
  • Bedale, North Yorkshire – DL8 1AD – closing April 26
  • Leyburn, North Yorkshire – DL8 5BQ – closing May 5
  • Satburn, Teesside - TS12 1AB - closing June 30

HSBC

  • Gosforth, Newcastle – NE3 1HE – closing July 18
  • South Shields, South Tyneside – NE33 1NW – closing June 14
  • Whitley Bay, North Tyneside – NE26 2SW – closing May 2
  • Whitby, North Yorkshire – YO21 1BD – closing May 16
