BBC Business presenter Steph McGovern will give an aspirational speech as part of Teesside International Women’s Day this year.

The Middlesbrough broadcast journalist will be joined by fellow Teessider, TV presenter Kirsten O’Brien, Chief Constable Jacqui Cheer from Cleveland Police, and other key speakers at the free event at Middlesbrough Town Hall on Saturday, March 8 between 10am and 3pm.

The theme of the event is “Inspiring Change”, and speeches will also come from ultra marathon runner Sharon Gayter, local businesswoman Jo Hand, charity boss Jessie Joe Jacobs and Kath Sainsbury, asylum and refugee activity for Justice First.

The day is to raise awareness about equality and get women, particularly young women, from Teesside involved.

Councillor Tracy Harvey, of Middlesbrough Council, said: “Our vision is for the event to promote the considerable value of gender equality to families, communities and society as a whole.

“We hope to provide information stalls on the various opportunities and services available to women in Middlesbrough, cultural and multi-media displays, internationally-themed food, entertainment, and guest speakers who, in sharing their stories and achievements, will also provide inspiration to local women and girls.”

The event has been organised by several group including the council, Barnardo’s, Cleveland Police, Cleveland College of Art & Design, and many others.
