AN original Antony Gormley painting is to go under the hammer at a charity auction.
The famous artist, best known for creating the iconic Angel of the North sculpture in Gateshead, is donating a piece from his personal collection called Bounding Condition to raise money for Teesside University’s Development Fund.
The Constantine Gala Dinner is taking place on its campus in Middlesbrough on Saturday, June 15, when punters will also get the chance to bid for a European break and a spa package.
Bids for auction prizes can be placed in the lead up to the event and during the auction itself.
Jane Hutchinson, culture and events co-ordinator at Teesside University, said: “We are delighted with the generosity of Antony Gormley to submit an original piece for our charity auction – I am sure it will generate a lot of interest.
“It is not just people attending the gala dinner who can bid. We would encourage everybody to take a look at the website and give themselves a chance of securing one of many fantastic prizes.”
Mr Gormley OBE was awarded an honorary degree in 2004 from Teesside University which uses its development fund to pay for scholarships and improves facilities.
Bids can be placed online at tees.ac.uk/auction
