MOTORBIKE enthusiasts are been reminded to pencil the date of the twelfth Ridewell event in their diaries.
This year’s event, on Sunday, August 11, will see stunt rider Dave Coates take centre stage along with a host of other attractions such as BMW’s fleet of motorcycles including a number of historic police motorcycles and demonstrator bikes.
There will also be displays by Cleveland Police Dog Section and Firearms Department while Cleveland Fire Service will also be giving extrication demonstrations at the event in Preston Park, near Eaglescliffe.
Alongside the many attractions, the development and education programmes linked to the event are hoped to continue to reduce the region’s biker casualty toll.
In 1999 when the event was first launched, there were eight motorcyclist fatalities in the Cleveland force area but by 2012 this figure was reduced to zero.
Ridewell co-ordinator, Sergeant Paul Dee, from the Motorcycle Section of the Cleveland and Durham Specialist Operations Unit, said “Last year’s motorcycle casualty figures endorse the excellent work that has been done by the section over the years and Ridewell has been an integral part of this success.
“However we cannot afford to rest on our laurels and it is now up to us to strive to maintain these results. Year upon year we get thousands of visitors from up and down the country coming to our Ridewell event.”
