The Transporter Bridge Visitor Centre plays host to a talk about Middlesbrough’s iconic bridge on Tuesday from 10.30am while offering visitors the chance to view the new lighting system in the winding house and the opportunity to cross the Tees on a gondola. The Tees Transporter Bridge: Past, Present and Future presented by bridgemaster, Alan Murray, and principal engineer, Rodger Wakerley, will look back at its history, discuss its uses and discuss the current day uses and the ongoing £2.6m Heritage Lottery Fund award.

CHILDREN’S WARD: The Coulby Farm pub in Middlesbrough is organising a family fun day to raise funds for the children’s ward at the town’s James Cook University Hospital, on Bank Holiday Monday, May 27, from noon. Activities include Cleveland Army Cadet Force’s climbing wall, as well as nail painting, glitter tattoos and hair braiding at the Little Ladies’ Pamper Parlour. Funds will go to refurbishing ward 22’s parent’s room and provide a fridge, microwave and hot water boiler.

PEACE KEEPERS: A three-day training course for restorative justice volunteers in Middlesbrough was run by Restorative Solutions with Unite providing support and top-up training.

COMMUNITY AWARDS: Individuals and teams who have made outstanding contributions to their local area could be recognised at the Cleveland Community Safety awards.  The closing date for nominations is Friday, May 31. FAMILY FAIR: A fair is taking place on Bank Holiday Monday, May 27, from 11am to 4pm at the Community Hub at Newport Settlement, St Paul’s Road, Middlesbrough. Activities will include face painting, henna hand painting, bouncy castles, dance performances, a magic show and a circus skills workshop.
