A TEESSIDE school has been graded as ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted.

Nunthorpe Academy, near Middlesbrough, received top marks in every category.

It’s grading has improved since it became an academy on October 1, which means it is out of local authority control.

Aspects of the Academy that were singled out for praise by the Ofsted Inspectors included: the school’s leadership, student behaviour, extra-curriculum activities and student grades in exams.

Principal, Debbie Clinton said: “This year, 2013 has been a momentous year for Nunthorpe with two ministerial visits, our official launch as an Academy and now being graded ‘outstanding’ following a rigorous Ofsted inspection.

“To receive an outstanding report across the board is a fantastic achievement and a credit to everyone who has played a part in making Nunthorpe Academy such a success.

Since January, Nunthorpe has received two separate high level Government visits - the Secretary of State for Education Michael Gove and Schools Minister David Laws.

During his visit, Mr Gove said: “The students here are bright, articulate, intelligent young people, who are a credit to their community.”

Nunthorpe was revealed as the best performing secondary school in the Redcar and Cleveland borough in the most recent School League Tables.

The percentage of students achieving more than five A*to C GCSEs including English and Maths in 2012 was 76 per cent. This is above the national average of 59.4 per cent.
