VOLUNTEERS at a Stockton charity shop are holding a ‘Wild West’ day to try and round up new stock.
Staff at Sue Ryder on Stockton High Street will be wearing fancy dress on Wednesday to encourage people to have a spring clean and donate clothes, furniture and books.
Natalie Mallam, ahop manager, said; “People throw away hundreds of items a week rather than donate to charity as they feel they are too worn or old – but at Sue Ryder we will take everything from a once worn blouse to an outlawed odd sock.
“As a nation we have had to tighten our belts with food and fuel poverty hitting us hard following the long, wet winter. This has had the knock-on effect as people are giving less money to charities, like Sue Ryder who rely on donations to provide care to the 16,000 people we support every year.
Sue Ryder, which provides compassionate care to people with end of life and long term needs, re-uses, recycles and re-sells over 15,000 tonnes of donations each year that might otherwise end up in land fill sites.
