MIDDLESBROUGH College has signed up to sponsor the town’s 5k and 2k runs next month.
Both events will finish with a lap around the pitch of the nearby Riverside Stadium before reaching the finish line on Sunday, June 2.
To mark the sponsorship deal, former Middlesbrough and Darlington player, Neil Maddison, who now coaches for the college, joined its principal and chief executive, Mike Hopkins, and Middlesbrough Councillor, Nicky Walker, to try out the route.
Mr Hopkins said: “Events such as this are fantastic for community spirit, for encouraging more people to challenge themselves, to get fit and lead a healthier lifestyle, so the college was very keen to support it in these difficult economic times."
Mr Maddison added: “It’s ironic that my career has brought me back to within a goal-kick of the Riverside Stadium and it’s great that both the college and Boro are supporting this amazing event."
