THE driver of a lorry who died in an accident involving three lorries on the A1 has been named.
Wayne Howen, 38, from Ingleby Barwick, near Stockton, was driving a lorry carrying bottled gas that was involved in an accident with a vehicle carrying a combine harvester that was parked in a layby at the side of the road.
Mr Howen stopped after the accident, but was struck by a lorry towing a curtain-sided trailer.
The crash happened on the northbound A1 south of Catterick , North Yorkshire, at about 2am on Wednesday, September 12.
The third driver was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
He is in a critical, but stable, condition. The road was closed for more than 14 hours.
Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call police on 101 and select option two.
