MOTORISTS are being advised to avoid the A19 Tees flyover until further notice due to high winds.

Cleveland Police has issued the warning as a precaution in an attempt to keep the road safe.

Superintendent Chris Sadler said: “The bridge is extremely dangerous to high-sided vehicles which are not permitted to cross. The high winds are also affecting vans and relatively small vehicles.

“The police are endeavouring to slow traffic down to allow safe passage over the bridge, however, the road will be closed to all vehicles within the next hour.

“The situation has been made worse by drivers ignoring the restriction on high-sided vehicles and travelling at an excessive speed for the conditions.”
