MOTORISTS are being urged to ensure that their cars are road worthy for the winter weather with a seasonal check up.
Durham County Council is offering the checks at its service centres based in Peterlee, Annfield Plain, Chilton and Meadowfield.
They will cover everything from tyres, lights, battery and windscreen wipers to anti-freeze, starter systems and heating.
The checks plus MOTs are carried out by qualified technicians and they can be done while motorists wait if necessary.
The winter weather check-ups cost £26 and the full MOTs start at £42.
All makes and models of vehicles can have the checks. The MOTs are on offer to cars, mini buses and commercial vehicles up to 3.5tonnes.
Mike Toas, the council’s country fleet manager, said: “Vehicle health checks can help make sure your vehicle is well prepared for the frost, ice and snow and keep you on the move this winter.”
Motorists can also obtain further details on the check-ups and MOTs via the council’s website at durham.gov.uk/MOT
