A popular BBC comedy which has been on the air for nearly a decade, has been axed by the broadcaster.

Man Like Mobeen, which stars and is co-created by comedian Guz Khan, will not return to screens after its fifth series.

The news comes despite the show boasting a loyal fanbase and widespread critical acclaim.

The series follows former drug dealer Mobeen as he struggles to escape his dark past and raise his 15-year-old daughter in Birmingham.

According to The Sun, Guz, who has also appeared on Taskmaster, confirmed the show's cancellation.

He said he only agreed to a fifth series of the BBC programme to provide much-needed closure to fans after season four ended in a brutal prison attack.

He said: "I can't even shop at Aldi without someone popping out from behind the bread aisle and asking me when there's going to be more Man Like Mobeen.

"So, for you, and only for you, here's one, final, very last, never to be done again season of Man Like Mobeen."

He went on to plead: "Please don't make me make any more, I got loads of kids to raise and that."

Filming for the final series has already begun with the six episodes being set in Coventry and Turkey.

Guz has promised an epic finale to the programme which has been a part of people's lives for almost a decade.

The series will see Mobeen released from prison and embark on an extraordinary adventure.

Returning cast members include Salman Akhtar as Mobeen’s best friend Saj, Duaa Karim as his younger sister Aqsa, Mark Silcox as the hilarious Uncle Shady, and Korkmaz Arslan as Turkish barber Emre.

The new episodes will air on BBC Three and BBC iPlayer in 2025.
