Grand Design fans have a new series to look forward to which includes a special 25th anniversary episode.

The Channel 4 property programme will first air Grand Designs: 25 Years & Counting then the following episodes will be of the new series.

Kevin McCloud will return as host and the special episode will see him look back on some of the Grand Design’s most iconic and challenging builds.

Discussing the special, Channel 4 said: "Featuring the most ambitious builds and touching human dramas, with the biggest budget overspends, and disastrous delays thrown into the mix, this special will celebrate a true Channel 4 gem in its momentous anniversary year," reports the Radio Times.

After the special airs, fans of the show will get to see eight more episodes of the new series in which McCloud will go to “a childhood home being turned into a health and wellness retreat, and a water tower redesign that will intimidate even seasoned builders”, according to the publisher.

If you’re not already familiar with the concept of the Grand Designs series, Channel 4 describes it in a sentence: “Presenter Kevin McCloud follows some of Britain's most ambitious self-building projects, as intrepid individuals attempt to design and construct the home of their dreams”.

Grand Designs to release a book for 25th anniversary

Grand designs is also releasing a book, Grand Designs at 25, which will be published on Friday, September 6 by White Lion, Fremantle reports.

Fans can expect to see "a collection of the most iconic, stand-out builds from this perennially popular, long-running TV series, as chosen by Kevin" in the book as well as "gorgeous photography, the book also offers a unique opportunity for viewers and readers to read how the properties have fared over time."

How to watch the new series of Grand Designs

Grand Designs will return to our screens on Wednesday, September 11 at 9pm on Channel 4.

This episode will be the 25th anniversary special and the next eight episode will follow afterwards.
