POTENTIAL beauty queens are being sought for the first ever Miss Cleveland competition.

The pageant is the first step on a path that could lead to the winner being crowned Miss World.

Miss Cleveland is a regional heat for the Miss England competition, which leads into Miss World. The competition is open to girls aged 17-24, who live, work or were born in the Cleveland area.

It will be run in support of two charities – children’s charity Beauty with a Purpose and Stockton’s The Daisy Chain Project, which supports children with autism and their families.

Organisers have stressed that the competition places great emphasis on charitable and environmental causes, as well as on building confidence and positivity.

The winner of Miss Cleveland will take away prizes including entry to the Miss England 2013 semi-finals, a weekend in Blackpool and £100 of spray tan vouchers.
