A BEAT bobby has helped a youth club buy its own tents for a popular camping weekend.
Stockton Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) Christian Howe regularly visits the Elim Pentecostal Church Youth Club while on foot patrol and thought he could help the youngsters experience the great outdoors.
After hearing that they borrow equipment for their annual camping trips to the church youth camp near Hutton Rudby, he secured £300 from the Police Confidence Fund and approached Go Outdoors, in Stockton, which agreed to give a £100 discount off the cost of two tents.
PCSO Howe said: "Neighbourhood policing is all about getting into the heart of local communities and engaging with residents both young and old."
Val Eccleston, from the club, said: "We are absolutely delighted to have our own tents to go camping with. The young folk love the annual camp and can't stop talking about it for a long time afterwards."
The club is for youngsters aged 11 to 16, with sessions taking place on Monday evenings. Call 07527-089839.
