HISTORY buffs are being invited to join a forum to help with the preservation and restoration of a town centre.
Stockton Borough Council is looking for two volunteers to sit on a panel of 11 residents and business leaders who meet in Stockton Town Hall, from 4.30pm to 5.30pm, on Wednesday, about once every six weeks.
Members of the forum will be involved in managing two heritage grant schemes funded by Stockton council in partnership with the private sector, English Heritage, the Heritage Lottery Fund and One North East.
Councillor Mike Smith, the council's cabinet member for regeneration and transport, said: "Preserving and protecting Stockton's heritage and regenerating the historic heart of the town centre and neighbouring streets is priority for the council. We are looking for people to get involved in conserving our town centre, as well as making decisions about its future."
Members will assess interested volunteers at the next meeting on January 11.
To become a member of the forum, call Nigel Laws at the council, on 01642-527565.
