VOLUNTEERS have transformed a patch of wasteland into a community garden.
The 360-minute makeover challenge in South Bank involved staff from Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council and developer Gentoo brightening up derelict land next to the new £3.5m eco-village.
The 17 volunteers had only six hours to create the garden - installing planters, shrubs, flowers, paving and erecting a sign.
South Bank Tomorrow has already carried out other environmental improvements to King George Square, the Millennium Green and the Oliver Street Community Garden.
The community also entered the Northumbria in Bloom competition for the first time this year, winning a bronze award.
Lynn Pallister, Redcar and Cleveland borough councillor, said: "With the eco-village taking shape and South Bank Tomorrow group carrying out work, these are exciting times."
