VISITORS to Hartlepool's Central Library will have a chance to see rare film footage of the region dating back as far as 1928.
The film has been provided by the BBC as part of its "Reel History of Britain" series on BBC2, which uses film to connect families with their past.
Highlights include footage of Hartlepool in 1951, the ICI Billingham and Wilton works in the Fifties and Charlton's Champions (Middlesbrough Football Club) in 1974. The footage also includes one of the earliest surviving amateur colour films - "Redcar for Holidays" from 1935.
Librarian Diane Marlborough said: "Most of the footage hasn't been seen for decades and we only have it for a week, so this is literally a once in a lifetime chance to see it."
The film will be shown for free at the library, in York Road, from Monday, until Saturday, October 29, at 11am.
The film lasts for one hour and 45minutes but people can call in any time during a showing. For more information, call 01429-242909.
