TWO students have fulfilled a dream after their mountainous design was chosen to adorn an inspirational garden.

Judges failed to separate the iconic ideas of Amy Bainbridge and Laura Kelbrick as they worked on the second of seven sculptures for their school.

The 15-year-olds, who are students at The King's Academy, Coulby Newham, were among a host of year nine entries in an annual design competition.

Started last year, the first sculpture of a sword and shield depicts courage, one of the academy's seven core values.

This year, students were charged with designing the second sculpture to represent determination, but judges were unable to separate Laura's mountain with Amy's words of Martin Luther King, "I have a dream".

Both were combined into one sculpture, which was unveiled in the sculpture garden.

Principal Chris Drew said: "The quality of the ideas was excellent and we really struggled to come up with one winner.

"With Amy and Laura's ideas we could see how we could fuse them together with such great effect."

Laura said: "I am glad we both won and I think our ideas work really well together."

Amy added: "I'm thrilled, particularly as I would really love to be a sculptor one day. I am very happy and feel extremely proud."
