PUPILS from the region will tour the Olympic Park in London and meet former champions as part of the build-up to the 2012 games.
A 22-strong group from Oakfields Community and Trinity Catholic Colleges in Middlesbrough will take part in a two-day sports and activity programme next week organised by Hackney's School Sports Partnership.
They will compete in a five a-side tournament, wheelchair basketball, archery, orienteering, disc golf and a cycle ride. They will attend workshops and discussions with former Olympic athletes.
Councillor Brenda Thompson, Middlesbrough Council's executive member for public health and sport, said: "There's a real sense of excitement and anticipation ahead of the Olympics 2012, especially as Middlesbrough is on the torch relay route.
"This visit will be a terrific experience for the students and I am sure it will inspire them to go on to achieve their own sporting dreams."
