A FILM chronicling the 2010 General Election campaign fought in Middlesbrough is being screened for the first time in the town.

BAFTA-nominated documentary maker, John Walsh, made a film of the year he spent as the Tory candidate standing against Labour's Sir Stuart Bell.

A free showing of Tory Boy: The Movie is being held tonight, at 5pm, at Cine World, followed by a 6.30pm question-and-answer session.

Mr Walsh said his film exposed Middlesbrough as a town forgotten by politics with an "absentee" MP who has not held a constituency surgery for 15 years.

Sir Stuart has been criticised after saying that he does not hold open surgeries after he was twice attacked, but insists he does hold weekly meetings by appointment at Middlesbrough Town Hall.

He also denied claims by a constituent that she made up to 40 requests to see him about Child Support Agency issues.

Last year, Sir Stuart scored his seventh General Election victory in the Labour heartland, with a reduced majority.

He secured 15,351 votes, followed by Lib Dem Chris Foote-Wood with 6,662 and Mr Walsh with 6,283.

Mr Walsh has produced TV series and dramas for BBC, Channel 4 and Five, as well as films.

He self-funded his £15,000 election campaign and financed the £50,000 Tory Boy: The Movie, through his own production company.
