A TOWN's hidden gems can be explored by following a series of new route cards.
To encourage people in Middlesbrough to exercise through walking, free planners with detailed notes and an Ordnance Survey map are being given away.
Circular strolls include walks around Nunthorpe, the River Tees and Hemlington.
Volunteer walk leaders have been recruited to lead the six regular rambles. The cards are available from libraries, leisure and community centres.
Middlesbrough Council's chief executive, Ian Parker said: "Middlesbrough has some great walks and I'm sure there will be some pleasant surprises, even for those who think they know the town."
