A NURSERY is in with a chance of winning a cut of the Jubilee People's Millions funding pot.

Sunny Days playgroup, based in Redcar and Cleveland College, is hoping to win £60,000 by taking part in the contest, which celebrates the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

If the Sensory Sunny Days bid wins, staff will create a multi-sensory room that will offer a relaxing, enjoyable and calm environment for children with sensory disabilities.

The project also offers specialist child-minding facilities for parents.

Wendy Walton, of Sunny Days, said: "If we win the bid, the money will be used to create a new sensory room, which will be a massive boost to the centre.

"Hopefully, people will support our bid to win and we will get enough votes to get the funding."

The group will be taking on Parkside's Pathways4All Garden Project in Wallsend on Wednesday, June 29, when the two bidders will go head-to-head on Tyne Tees' early evening news programme.

The telephone number to vote for the project will be announced on the day.
